CSC Ketam Coastal Clean-Up – 9 March 2025
A Seafarers Initiative: 37 Volunteers Remove Over 600kg of Trash in Pulau Ketam Pulau Ketam
In a staggering show of determination and environmental action, 37 volunteers braved the rain to achieve what seemed impossible — hauling an impressive 131 bags of trash, weighing over 600kg, from Pulau Ketam’s shores. Under relentless rain and against all odds, this dedicated crew valiantly battled against the unfavorable elements, spirits remaining high as they waded through the island’s debris-laden shores.
The initiative saw remarkable community engagement, volunteers from all backgrounds — including members from Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC), Changi Sailing Club (CSC), SMU Sailing, NUS Sailing alumni, Seafarers and non-sailors — coming together to conserve our waters and celebrate our passion for the seasport. A fleet of seven sailboats, including two CSC Platus and a Trimaran, was mobilized to support the mission, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who worked tirelessly to coordinate boat owners. Various boats were involved – Bobochacha, Dot dot dot, Slingshot, Boreas, Notus, Shardana and Calyndrix, returning for its second Ketam cleanup mission.
Yet, this is only the beginning. The staggering amount of waste collected is just a glimpse into a far greater crisis—our oceans are changing, and not for the better. Each passing year, monsoons grow stronger, marine life dwindles, and seafaring itself becomes more difficult. Without sustainable action, the very waters we explore will become unrecognizable.
The fight for a healthier ocean continues, and we sail forward.
