Anchored in heritage, sailing toward a sustainable future.

Born from voyages aboard Four Friends, we unite people through adventure, community, and care for the sea — keeping maritime traditions alive while charting a course for a greener tomorrow.

NUS Seafarers began with sailing voyages aboard Four Friends, a 60 foot gaff-rigged schooner. These early trips were about bringing experiential sailing voyages to students.

North with the Trade Winds

Driven by the spirit of adventure, exploring the unique cultural and economic heritage of maritime Southeast Asia and complex ecology of Singapore waters.

NUS Seafarers became an official student club in 2025, fully student-run. We realised that sailing could be more than just adventure; it could be a platform for sustainability, community, and heritage. Today, it is a platform to bring together people from all backgrounds to learn to sail, join coastal cleanups, share maritime stories, and connect with the ocean in meaningful ways.

From our first days on Four Friends to our diverse activities now, our aim has stayed the same: to enjoy the sea, care for it, and keep its stories alive.

NUS Seafarers began with a simple idea: that the sea should be for everyone - open, welcoming, and cared for.

From our home waters in Singapore to distant shores beyond, we set out to build a community bound not by uniform skill or background, but by a shared respect for the ocean and an appetite to explore them.

Our mission is threefold. First, we champion sustainable seafaring, recognising our role as stewards of fragile marine ecosystems. From coastal cleanups at Pulau Ketam to workshops on marine life and upcycling, we equip our members with the knowledge and practices needed to protect the seas for generations to come.

Second, we aim to build an inclusive community of seafarers, a place where beginners can take their first tack alongside seasoned sailors, and where curiosity and camaraderie fuel every voyage. Whether it’s a leisurely cruise, a regatta, or a weekend dinghy sail, there’s a place on deck for everyone.

Third, we are dedicated to sharing stories and preserving maritime heritage. The sea is not only our playground but our library of living history. Through oral history projects, digitalising personal recounts, photos and videos on our website, we capture the unique experiences of each voyage, keeping alive Singapore’s rich seafaring traditions and passing them on to future generations.

Our activities span sailing courses and expeditions, environmental initiatives, and cultural preservation projects. From mastering the physics of sailing to embarking on long-haul voyages to creating an archive of maritime stories that transcends time and borders, we sail with purpose.

At NUS Seafarers, every tack, every cleanup, every tale told brings us closer to a single vision: a greener, more connected, and enduring maritime culture in Singapore championed by youths, anchored in respect for the sea, and driven by the spirit of adventure.
